California Raisins Whips Up A 'Sweet Raya' with Chef  Rohani Jelani's Raisin-Inspired Dishes & Dessert

Theme: "California Raisins Raya Manis"
(in conjunction with the Hari Raya festive season)

California Raisins organized by Raisin Administrative Committee (RAC)
About: Theme today aims to inspire a sweet raya via home-made delights using California Raisins.

RAC Trade Director for Malaysia, Richard Lieu said that most consumers (especially children) snack on raisins! (Me me!!!) These tiny fruits are not only meant to be eaten right outta box but also can be implemented into dishes, cakes, pastries and so much more.

Chef (Food Stylist and Menu Maker) Rohani Jelani shared with us her tips and tricks in using raisins in making healthy sweet and savoury festive home-made dishes!! <3

Chef Rohani stressed the importance of  California Raisins as it has many nutritional values.

Benefit of raisins!

A mini recipe for you to try!

Chef Rohani demo Makmur Cookies (with California Raisins centres) with California Raisins...

1. Put in soaked raisins (200g) and blend.
2. Cook them until slightly dry to sticky texture
3. Add in some brown sugar (20g). Let cool and roll in ball (that's the California  Raisins filling as seen in pic #9!).
4.  Meanwhile Chef Rohani starts making the pastry. Mix butter (100g), ghee (100g), orange rind (1 orange) until creamy.
5. Add in icing sugar (120g), one spoon at a time until done. With medium speed, beat until light and fluffy.
6. Add in flour (280g) little by little. Fold in slowly, do not stirr/beat.

9. Mould the pastry mixture into dough.
10. Put in one black ball of California raisins filling into the dough ball (about 17g each).
11. Sift some powder to the bahulu mould before inserting (or whatever mould you are using) to ensure the ball won't stick to it. there should be no excess after flattening at the mould casing.
12.Knock it out!
13. Ta-daa!
14. Put on baking pan  and leave in refrigerator about 15-20 minutes before baking it at 150 C for 20-25 minutes. Do not wait for it to become golden brown. Take out when it changes color. Leave rack in room temperature for 10 minutes. Then sprinkle some icing sugar on it. Keep in air tight container.

Consequently, she also demo Sambal with California Raisins and bunga kantan.

Slice 12 red chillie (but remove the seeds of 6 red chillie), 3cm long each
1. Ingredients for the sambal.
2. Heat the pan.  Pour in red chillie, chillie padi * (i think) & garlic (x5).
3. Add in cherry tomatoes (150g) and belacan block (20g), fry for 2-3 minutes.
4&5. Add in California Natural Raisin (70g). Fry for 1 minute and leave to cool for 10 minutes.
6&7. Put into blender. Add 1 teaspoon of salt, lime juice (squeeze 12-15 of it), and lime rind (7 of it). Blend but not till super fine.
8. Freshly blended sambal mixture is pored into a bowl.
9&10. Blend and mix in the remaining stuff.
11. A bowful of sambal topped with sliced "bunga kantan". Mix well.
12&13. Serve with raw vegetables, fried chicken, "keropok ikan" and more!
FYI, you can keep this sambal for as long as 1 week in the freezer!

Julia Teo, Associate Marketing Director of Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies, which markets Neutrogena® in Malaysia

Teo added: “Through our fashion debut at Mercedes-Benz STYLO AsiaFashionFestival, we hope to demonstrate the inner-joy of having healthy, great-looking skin, a result of using Neutrogena® skincare, and share it with Malaysian women -- what better way to do this than to come up with a fashion collection, inspired by the concept of Happy Skin”!

“It’s undeniable that women and fashion go hand in hand. Through our fashion collection, we want to tell every Malaysian woman that she can count on Neutrogena® to put her best face forward”.

Happy Skin is something that lasts through all seasons – it’s definitely not a trend. So we hope to show through our designer’s fashion collection that it’s possible to keep your skin healthy with Neutrogena®, look amazing and stay happy all the time!

Neutrogena® in Malaysia have tied up with Kittie Yiyi and Hazzer Wan Lee – two unique designers who draw their inspiration from things that intrigue them in creating interesting prints and colours!

Love the shoe!

Thanks to their creativity and hard work, we will see how they bring the youthfulness and joy of Neutrogena®’s Happy Skin 24/7 concept to life tonight,” continued Teo.

Kittie Yiyi’s quirky sense of humour translates into her designs, which are often joyful and loud, yet smart. The Raffles Design Institute KL graduate’s motto is: “Whatever you decide to wear, make sure it makes you happy!”

Kittie’s collection is inspired by the quintessential beach girl on a holiday. Coming from a faraway beach land, she wanders into the city in her flowy, comfy loose-fitting outfits. Her happiness is infectious – and it shows in the way she dresses. Featuring flared silhouettes, ruffles, cheerful stripes and heart-shaped prints, the collection flaunts the beach girl’s confidence in her own skin with transparent details and cut-outs.

Hazzer Wan Lee, creative director of HWL by Hazzer Wan Lee Fashion Atelier Kuala Lumpur, graduated with a degree in Fashion and Apparel Design from Herriot-Watt University, Scotland.

Hazzer’s fashion collection is inspired by the water splash -- a signature of Neutrogena® Deep Clean range of cleansing products, and the first step to Happy Skin 24/7! Fluid lines and cascading layers come together to bring out the beauty and energy of water in hues of blue, green, orange and pink. The clever incorporation and layering techniques of different materials such as denim, organdy, PU leather, cotton silk and dyed fabrics results in a unique 3D effect that mimics the movements of water.

(Review) Dr. Morita Bee Venom Ceramide Repair Essence Eye Mask

Hello lovelies.

I did not realized these has been sitting in my draft for more than 2 weeks.
At that point of time I was emo so I now realized the best method to shoo away the blues is by mask-ing myself! ^^

What do you do when you are feeling blue?
Comment down below ok!! ^^

Finally decided to open up and try this Dr. Morita Eye Mask I got back from my previous visit to Hong Kong. If you have not read it, here is the post from 2014

Brand: Dr. Morita
Item: Bee Venom Ceramide Repair Essence Eye Mask
Content: 5 pieces per box
Origin: Japan
Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Panthenol, Glycosyl Trehalose / Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate (Trehalose), Sodium Hyaluronate, Xanthan Gum, Allantoin, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Disodium EDTA. Menthyl Lactate, Menthol, MethylParabe, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance
(more info on ingredients and function can be found here)

Claims (from YesStyle):Targets aging skin and dark circles in eye area.
Bee venom extract and ceramide helps to prevent moisture loss while smoothing lines and wrinkles, and fortifying skin tissue to de-puff and lighten dark circles around eyes.

Feels so much more like myself after mask-ing for 10 minutes!

Eyes feel moisturised. But I don't think my fine lines are gone or somehow became less visible to my naked eye...most probably coz I sleep late and all. But after removal it seems the color is slightly more even and somewhat I think my eye area is more brighter (not sure if its the placebo effect or what but I cannot see it in picture of my before-after so no point posting it).
Nonetheless, from YesStyle there are two reviews which seems positive for the users.

Anyone with dry concern around eye areas should try it!

( it would be a 4 or 5 if there are observable difference for my fine lines... :/ )

P.S. Thanks for reading lovelies!
Stay tuned for my second birthday bash goodies which I will post on and review soon!!!!

(Event) Press Conference | Miss Chinese World 2017

On 16th May 2017 at One World Hotel, I am honored to be invited to the Press Conference.
Thank you Jay Mee (Marketing Director, EverQuest Sdn. Bhd) for the invite!

Press Release:

In the era of quick-fixes and convenience, it is all too easy to lose one’s identity and forget our roots. The Miss Chinese World pageant was created by Malaysia’s very own, Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi to celebrate and promote the Chinese culture, values and age-old traditions alive while bringing together beauties of Chinese ethnicity from all over the world to foster peace, goodwill and friendship among contestants.

With the title slogan “The Beauty of Hearts, The World of Wisdom”, it would not do for contestants to only possess a pretty face. The pageant will be an interesting showcase of talent and mental powers. With this year’s theme ‘Heritage of the Orient’, these ethnic Chinese beauties must display a strong sense of understanding of what it means to be a Chinese.

The Miss Chinese World pageant will see 31 participants from 9 countries worldwide, namely; China, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Taiwan, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. It will run from 14th May 2017 till the World Final Event on the 26th May 2017 at One World Hotel. The Miss Chinese World pageant is jointly organized by Miss Chinese World Sdn Bhd and Legacy Film Sdn Bhd.

Prior to the Grand Final Night, the participants will be engaged in many promotional programs including official visits around the country to promote tourism, engage in activities like dumpling making, Chinese calligraphy and a tea appreciation session. They will also be promoting Mother’s Day and raising funds for an old folks’ home.

“It is always interesting to observe a big group of beautiful ladies coming from vastly different countries and backgrounds yet sharing one common root, which is their Chinese ethnicity, converging under one event. We hope that these ladies will form good relationships and lasting friendships while keeping their Chinese pride alive”, said Zoee Tan, Director of Legacy Film, the official joint organizer for the pageant. Tan, herself, a pageant winner for Miss Malaysia Tourism 1996 has also won many local and international pageant titles.

The Miss Chinese World pageant is the brainchild of Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi, who is no stranger in the pageant circuit. He has 25 years of pageant organizing experience under its belt for both international and local beauty pageants. “I created the Miss Chinese World pageant in year 2005. Being in the pageant industry for as long as I have, I realize more and more that the younger generations are shunning their roots to quickly embrace the latest trends and identities of other cultures. Being Chinese, I decided that it is of utmost importance to keep our beautiful Chinese language, cultures, values and traditions alive. I hope that in years to come, this effort of mine will bear fruit and see the younger generations reflecting the tenets of Chinese values such as tenacity, respect, and filial piety,” said Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi during the press conference held on 16 th May 2017 at One World Hotel.

GMCI Corporation (GMCI) is the Presenter for the Miss Chinese World 2017. Almost forgot to share with you these beautiful crowns!

The pic cannot do justice for the crown. You need to see it yourself omg!
Its of purple diamonds with gold frame I think.

My thoughts:

I like the reason why YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi (President of Miss Chinese World 2017) started the whole pageant. It is true that our tradition have died off as the time passes (no matter what race or religion we are from), at least that's what happened in my family. Each passing year has made our prayer tradition simpler coz of our busy lifestyle and laziness.

I personally feel that such a pageant is much more meaningful and can bring about awareness of the importance of Chinese tradition; that is, "to preserve the Chinese culture, values and traditions alive in a beautiful way".

Looking forward to the finals on 26th May 2017 at One World Hotel.
Any of you interested in checking out the event?

Good luck to all delegates of Miss Chinese World 2017!
